CBD chocolate mousse is a delectable treat that is quite simple to make. There are also several different ways that the mousse can be used. This recipe also allows for you to use any of our Canna Trading Co. CBD Tinctures, which also gives way to flavor variations.
We’ll give you the rundown on how to make CBD chocolate mousse as well as different flavor variations and fun ways to incorporate this decadent dessert element into other desserts.
What is Chocolate Mousse?
Chocolate mousse is a light, fluffy chocolate dessert. A few variations do exist that are a little heavier in texture. It should have a silky, light texture. It should not be greasy feeling in your mouth. Some may describe it as having a foamy texture. It should be delicate and should melt in your mouth.
Basic CBD Chocolate Mousse Recipe
We’re going to start by giving you the basic CBD chocolate mousse recipe. We’ll carefully explain how to make this dessert so that you get the light, fluffy texture that is expected. Once you’ve got the basics down, we’ll get into flavor variations and alternate uses for this dessert.
2 droppers Canna Trading Co. CBD Tincture (dosage will vary depending on the tincture you choose, we’ll break this down after the recipe)
6 oz. chocolate of your choosing
2 cups heavy whipping cream
2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste
2 large eggs
1/4 cup granulated sugar or sugar substitute
Add the eggs and sugar to a mixing bowl and beat on high until the sugar has dissolved and the eggs are fluffy. This will take about 4 minutes.
In a saucepan, add 1 cup of the heavy cream. Do not boil or simmer, just make it hot to the touch. This will be about 135 degrees Fahrenheit. The cream just needs to be warm enough to “cook” the eggs without scrambling them.
Turn your mixer speed onto low and start to slowly drizzle the warmed cream into the eggs.
Once all of the cream is incorporated into the eggs, pour the entire mixture into the saucepot and turn the heat onto low. Stir constantly until thickened. This will take between 6 and 8 minutes.
Use a candy thermometer while warming the cream and eggs in the pan. When the temperature reaches 150 degrees Fahrenheit, remove the pan from the heat.
Melt your chocolate. Stir this into the egg and cream mixture. Add in your vanilla bean paste.
Pour the mixture through a strainer and then chill it for 3 – 4 hours.
While the mousse base is chilling, make CBD whipped cream to fold into the mousse base. For this, all you’ll need to do is beat the remaining 1 cup of heavy cream and your 2 droppers of Canna Trading Co. CBD tincture. Fold this into the mousse to lighten it up.
Canna Trading Co. offers several different strengths of CBD tinctures. Each varying strength carries a different amount of CBD in a single dropper. We’ll break them down below so that you have a better understanding of how much CBD you’re putting in your CBD chocolate mousse.
- Anxiety, Inflammation and Sleep tinctures – 400 mg total CBD per bottle. Approximately 13.33 mg of CBD per dropper
- Alchemy, organic olive oil tincture, flavored tinctures – 750 mg total CBD per bottle. 25 mg CBD per full dropper
- 1500 mg tinctures (Organic Olive Oil, Peppermint and Vanilla) – 1500 mg total CBD per bottle equals 50 mg per full dropper
A serving of CBD chocolate mousse is roughly 1 cup. The recipe makes 2 cups. If you are using a 750 mg tincture, the recipe calls for 2 droppers of CBD tincture – this means that you’ll have about 12.5 mg of CBD per serving.
Type of Chocolate to Use
When it comes to what type of chocolate to use for your mousse, a lot of it has to do with flavor preference. You can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet, white chocolate or even bittersweet. You can also mix different types of chocolate together.
If you use dark or bittersweet chocolate, you might need to add just a little more sugar. Not everyone likes sweet chocolate, so if you are part of the population that prefers something less sweet, you can absolutely leave the sugar level where it is.
It’s ideal to use either chips or blocks. Candy bars often contain additional ingredients as preservatives and to prevent melting in the packages. This can change the texture and result of your mousse. Cocoa powder can also be used, but it can clump, so make sure you sift it into your mixture and taste the chocolate level several times.
Adding Flavor to your CBD Chocolate Mousse
Chocolate goes well with several other flavors. We’re going to help you fancy up this simple chocolate mousse. One way to add just subtle flavor is to use either our Peppermint or Vanilla CBD tinctures. The flavorings are non-alcohol extracted and do not overwhelm your palate.
Here are a few ways to add flavor to your CBD chocolate mousse:
- 1 – 2 teaspoons of orange zest
- 2 crushed peppermint candies
- Caramel ribbons
- Sprinkle flaked sea salt over the top
- Add crumbled bacon, whipped cream and a caramel drizzle to the top
- Fold in fresh raspberries or layer it with fresh raspberry preserves
- Fold in fresh strawberries and blueberries
- Make 2 kinds of chocolate mousse and layer them with crushed graham crackers or pretzels for texture
These are simple ways to add flavor to your mousse.
Alternate Uses for your Mousse
Of course you can just grab a spoon and dig in, but there are several fun ways to use your CBD chocolate mousse in other ways.
Try spreading it between layers of cake for a CBD chocolate mousse cake. It’s best to do this when the mousse has been sitting out for a couple of hours so it’s easier to work with.
Grab a small scoop and make frozen CBD mousse bon bons. All you’ll need to do here is scoop out 1 oz. portions of the mousse when it’s cold and roll them into a ball. Freeze them for an hour and then coat them in chocolate and texture (flaky sea salt, crushed nuts, crushed potato chips or crushed pretzels).
Top a cheesecake with your mousse. Then top that with a rich dark chocolate ganache. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and raspberries.
Making chocolate mousse requires a little patience. Adding oil to the mixture to make it CBD chocolate mousse is another layer of difficulty, but you just have to be patient and work each step of the process properly and it will all work out.
