CBD makeup products are some of the newest items available in the CBD world. Before you go and buy just any beauty product that says it contains CBD, there are a few things you should know. Making safe and educated purchases when it comes to CBD makeup, or any CBD product, is ideal.
Some physicians are hinting that CBD included in makeup and beauty products may support healthier skin.
Dr. Sherry Ingraham said, “What’s really exciting is this new advent of CBD and skin products. We know CBD can be anti-inflammatory. The downside is we don’t have a lot of data yet so we’re really embarking on a new area of CBD containing products and as time goes on we’re going to have more information.”
When buying CBD makeup, these are some of the things you should know.
Buying CBD Makeup Locally – Know your State’s Laws
Before you go to your local retail or department store to buy CBD makeup, make sure that CBD is legal in your state. Although the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and removed it from the Controlled Substances Act, not all states have updated their laws yet. Idaho, South Dakota and Nebraska still consider CBD illegal. CBD also remains in a gray area as the FDA has not issued guidelines for the industry yet.
Check with your local lawmakers if you’re unsure if CBD products are legal in your state. Some states have laws where a certain form of CBD, such as oils only, is legal.
Amount of CBD in the Product
How much actual CBD is in the CBD makeup product? Keep in mind that the amount of CBD shown on the label is the amount in the entire jar or container, not the amount in each application. Every person applies a different amount of makeup so it’s difficult to say how much CBD will be in your actual application but it’s likely a few milligrams.
For example, if a product says 200 mg CBD that means that the entire container has 200 mg of CBD in it. If you’re using a cover-all CBD makeup product like foundation or concealer, think about how many times you can apply the makeup before you run out. Divide the expected application times by the milligrams of CBD and that will give you an idea of about how much CBD you’ll get per application.
Read Lab Reports when Buying CBD Makeup
Whenever you are buying CBD products, whether it’s a tincture or CBD makeup, always view the lab reports before buying. The lab report will let you know that the CBD oil used to make the product is free of heavy metals, residual solvents, microbes and other chemicals like pesticides and herbicides. Starting with clean CBD that has a high CBD concentration is ideal.
Make sure that the lab report notes passing grades in all categories including:
- Legal THC level (0.3% or less)
- Residual solvents
- Full cannabinoid profile
- Terpene profile, if it is the finished product that is tested
- Microbial testing
- Heavy metals
- CBD levels of at least 80% or more
The lab test should be from an accredited lab with appropriate licensing. Their license number should be clearly visible on the form. It should also be signed and dated after the results have been reviewed and approved.
Below is a sample of what one of Canna Trading Co.’s lab test result sheets looks like. Notice that all company info for the lab is clearly visible and there are cannabinoid values shown in two different ways. You can also visit our Lab Test Results tab on our website to review more lab reports.
What are the ingredients in your CBD makeup product? If you are careful about what types of products you use on your face, paying attention to the ingredients is important. Does the company use natural ingredients? Are there chemical preservatives? These are things you need to look for.
What elements to protect your skin are in the product? Natural oils such as sweet almond oil, avocado oil and shea butter are good ingredients to look for.
If you don’t know what an ingredient is or if it seems like a harsh chemical, take a couple of minutes to do some research. If it isn’t an ingredient you want, do not buy the product.
Some CBD makeup manufacturers think that just because a product contains CBD that is has to have a big price tag attached to it. This is not the case. CBD makeup products are likely to cost a little more, but the prices should not be double or triple that of traditional makeup products.
Canna Trading Co. Renew Facial Cream
Now, if you don’t want to use CBD makeup products or find that they’re far out of your budget, there’s another option. Our Renew Facial Cream can be applied to your skin before you put your makeup on. The formula contains sweet almond oil, avocado oil and shea butter for moisturizing your skin. Each 2 fl. oz. bottle contains 200 mg CBD. We also include naturally-derived essential oils in our facial cream formula.
We chose to include sweet almond oil because it is known to help moisturize skin while providing it with needed antioxidants. Antioxidants may help your skin’s overall health.
If you find that you can’t afford CBD makeup products but want to use them, there are a couple of options. Of course, you can apply the Canna Trading Co. Renew Facial Cream first and rub it in well. You can also add a drop or two of CBD tincture to your liquid makeup products. You only want to use a small amount because you need to ensure that the CBD oil blends into your makeup product and does not separate. We suggest the Canna Trading Co. Organic Olive Oil tincture to use with your makeup products if you choose to blend up your own.
Keep these things in mind when you’re buying CBD makeup products. Take some time to compare brands, ingredients, volume and price. Make sure the purchase you’re making is a safe one. Should you question a product, contact the manufacturer and wait to make a purchase until you have sufficient answers. Again, if the company does not make lab reports available, it’s best to avoid them.
