Why you should Start your Winter Skincare Routine Now

The seasons seem a bit confused this year. It’s already snowed in several areas of the U.S. and we haven’t even celebrated Halloween yet. It’s a sign that the time to start your winter skincare routine is now. You can incorporate CBD and CBD skincare products into your winter skincare routine rather easily. If you’re already using Canna Trading Co.’s Renew CBD Facial Cream, we’ve got a few tips to help you use it in your skin winterization regimen.

Step 1 for your Winter Skincare Routine: Hydrating Overnight Masks

Part of your winter skincare routine should include applying a hydrating overnight mask several times a week. These masks can include our Renew CBD Facial Cream or one of our CBD tinctures. We suggest using a CBD tincture that best suits your needs. If you are using one of our CBD tinctures on a daily basis already, go ahead and use it in the hydrating overnight mask ideas we’ll provide here.

Using our Canna Trading Co. Peppermint Tincture might assist the aroma of your skin mask while giving your skin a little CBD in the process. There is just a slight hint of peppermint in our peppermint CBD tincture. It’s not overpowering and won’t sting when applied to your skin.

Try this coconut oil overnight facial mask out.

1 teaspoon Canna Trading Co. Renew CBD Facial Cream

3 – 5 drops Canna Trading Co. CBD tincture of your choice

1 teaspoon cold pressed coconut oil

Just mix everything together in a bowl and apply it to your face. Massage some of it in well. Make sure you also cover your neck.

Leave it on overnight and wash your face well in the morning. Feel free to apply more Renew CBD Facial Cream after washing your face.

Winter Skincare Routine Step 2: Protect your Skin from Dry Indoor Heat

Indoor heat can dry out your skin. It might leave you with flaky or ashy skin. Your first instinct might be to just apply some lotion. It’s a good start, but lotion isn’t often thick enough to really protect your skin from being exposed to that warm air.

When you’re going from brisk, cold air to a heated space, the moisture in that indoor air is likely lacking. Unless you’re using a humidifier inside your home to prevent the air from getting too dry, your skin needs a little extra attention in the winter.

Try using body butter instead of just lotion. You can use Canna Trading Co. CBD tinctures or our Renew CBD facial cream in a homemade body butter recipe as well. Renew CBD Facial Cream includes moisturizing essential oils.

Try a whipped body butter this winter. They are easy to make, here’s one recipe for you.

½ cup cocoa butter

10 drops of your favorite essential oil

½ cup coconut oil

½ cup shea butter

2 droppers Canna Trading Co. Vanilla Tincture

½ cup almond or olive oil (if you use olive oil, consider using our Canna Trading Co. Organic Olive Oil Tincture instead of the vanilla tincture)

Setup a double boiler on your stove. Add all of the ingredients except the CBD tincture. Slowly increase the heat to medium. When all of the ingredients have melted, take the bowl off of the heat and let it cool just a little. When it’s cool to the touch, add in your CBD tincture and essential oils.

Refrigerate 1 hour.

If the mixture has started to harden around the edges, it’s ready for whipping. Whip using a hand mixer for about 10 minutes or until the mixture looks fluffy. Put it back in the fridge for 15 minutes.

If you wish to add a little another layer of moisturization to your body butter, consider adding a dollop of our Renew CBD Facial Cream.

Place the remaining body butter in an airtight jar with a lid. Feel free to keep this in your fridge.

Tips for Keeping your Skin Healthy in the Winter Months

Along with using the skincare products we’ve suggested above, there are a few other ways to make sure your skin is protected in the winter. Your winter skincare routine should also include exfoliation. Only exfoliate once a week and do be gentle. Your skin might take a lot of abuse if you live in an area that is frigid and blustery in the winter.

If you over-exfoliate it could damage your skin and could leave it vulnerable to toxins, dirt and other contaminants. It also leaves it vulnerable to the extreme cold and dryer air in the winter months.

You’ll need a little extra hydration for your skin in the winter. As we’ve suggested before, avoid those steaming hot showers. Sure, after a day out in the cold you might long for a steaming hot shower to warm you up – but this can dry out your skin. This is also where using our Renew CBD Facial Cream would come in handy. You can use it more than once a day if your skin needs extra hydration.

Use different products on your face and body. You probably think that skin is skin, but the skin on your face is a little bit different than the skin on the rest of your body. Use body products for your body and face products for your face and neck. Body butters work well for areas of tougher skin like your knees and elbows.

Be mindful of using essential oils. If you make your own skincare products, make sure to only use the amount of essential oils the recipe calls for.

Keep your makeup light. While you would think that applying makeup would protect your skin in the winter, heavy makeup can clog pores and leave skin just as vulnerable as having no makeup on at all. Lighter applications and use of lighter makeup products helps keep your pores healthy.
