What is Whipped CBD Coffee?
Whipped CBD coffee is aerating coffee, cream and flavorings along with a dose of CBD in one frothy cup. The combinations are nearly endless. These drinks can be hot or cold and are easy to make at home whether you hand whisk, use an emersion blender, a traditional blender or even a hand mixer.
Incorporating CBD Tinctures into Whipped CBD Coffee
Oil and water don’t mix unless there’s an emulsifying agent in the mix. For whipped CBD coffee, it’s best to add the CBD to your dairy component or dairy alternative since it does contain some fat. CBD tinctures work best in food applications when fat is present. It helps the emulsification process.
Sugar or Sugar Substitute is a Must
If you want fluffy, frothy whipped CBD coffee, you’ll need to use some kind of sugar. While you can still get a little froth in a sugar-free option, it doesn’t stay fluffy for very long. Sugar helps stabilize the cream and keep it fluffy.
Types of recommended sugars:
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- Coconut sugar
- Raw sugar
Splenda tends to work better than other sugar substitutes if you need to take a reduced sugar or sugar-free route.
You can also use any other sugar substitute as long as it is in a granulated form.
The Whipping Method
What is the best method to use for making whipped CBD coffee? Multiple motions that add air to the liquid is best. Change up your patterns from circles to side-to-side to figure 8s and repeat. You can even incorporate some zig zag motions.
Using multiple different motions helps add air to all corners of the liquid.
What Kind of Coffee Should Be Used?
Instant coffee is the traditional and best way to make whipped coffee drinks. You can us decaf, but it’s not ideal to use actual coffee grounds since they don’t dissolve. It’s also not suggested to try to cut the standard recipe as it just won’t come out the same.
The Standard Method
The standard way of making whipped coffee really is easy as far as measuring is concerned. There are just 3 main ingredients and then you get into the creamy and flavoring elements.
What you’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons of your sugar choice
- 2 tablespoons of instant coffee
- 2 tablespoons boiling water
- A bowl
- A whisk, mixer or other piece of equipment to blend your ingredients
Add all of the ingredients to a bowl. Make sure the water is boiling so it’s hot enough to melt the sugar. Start mixing on low and quickly increase sped to high. Whip for 2 minutes and scrape the sides down. Whip another minute and scrape again.
Taste and adjust sweetness level.
Whip until firm and fluffy.
Fancying up your Whipped CBD Coffee
Now that you’ve gotten your coffee base done, you can work on fancying up your whipped CBD coffee. This is also where you’ll add your Canna Trading Co. CBD Tinctures. When it comes to the milk portion – you can use any milk or milk substitute.
You’ll need 1 cup of your milk of choice and 1 dropper of the suggested tinctures in the suggestions below. Milk can also be warm. It does not have to be cold. If you want an iced whipped CBD coffee, add ice before you put in your whipped coffee mixture.
You will need to slightly whip your milk and CBD tincture so that they blend. This shouldn’t take more than 2 minutes. It’s okay if your milk thickens a little bit.
The milk is poured over the whipped coffee. Some can float on the top.
You can flavor your milk and add garnishes.
Here are some flavor combinations that we suggest:
- Cashew milk with Canna Trading Co. Vanilla Tincture and ½ teaspoon caramel sauce (You can also just melt a caramel in the microwave too)
- Goat milk with Canna Trading Co. Vanilla Tincture and fresh strawberry puree (almost like a strawberry cheesecake flavor combination)
- Whole milk (or your milk of choice), Canna Trading Co. Peppermint Tincture and 1 teaspoon melted chocolate
- Almond milk with Canna Trading Co. Alchemy, a tiny pinch of cayenne and a pinch of cinnamon (a drizzle of honey really takes this one over the top)
- Half and half with Canna Trading Co. Anxiety Tincture, a pinch of cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon cocoa powder
These are just a few ideas. You can make a creamsicle flavor by using ½ teaspoon of orange zest, heavy cream, whole milk and Canna Trading Co. Vanilla Tincture. This would be an application where you’d warm the milk so that the natural orange oil permeates through the cream. Consider adding some chocolate to this one – dark chocolate and orange is a delicious combination.
Garnishing your Whipped Coffee Beverage
Your whipped CBD coffee can be enjoyed as-is, but adding some garnishes makes it even better. Get creative. If you have one of our CBD dessert recipes made, feel free to crumble it up on top.

- Crumbled graham crackers
- Crushed cookies
- Granola (grind it up a little finer first)
- Fresh mint
- Fresh fruit puree
- Melted nut butter
- Chocolate sauce
- Caramel sauce
